APDE – Portuguese Association on European Law

APDE is presiding FIDE from 2016 until 2018 and, in that capacity, has been entrusted with the responsibility to organize the XXVIII FIDE Congress to be held in 2018 in Portugal. APDE is the Portuguese member of FIDE. The association was founded in 1984 and aims to contribute to the diffusion of EU Law in Portugal.

 Member of the Supervisory Board of this University and currently member of the Council of Curators of the Foundation Nova University of Lisbon; Member of the Portuguese Government (1980-83): State Secretary for Home Affairs, State Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office and State Secretary for European Affairs, in charge of the negotiations for accession to the EC’s; Member of the Portuguese Parliament, Vice-President of the Christian-Democrat Group; Advocate General at the Court of Justice (1986-88); President of the Court of First Instance of the European Communities (1989-95); lawyer at the Lisbon Bar, specialist in European and Competition Law, partner with PLMJ (1996-2012); member of the Working Party on the Future of the European Communities' Court System – "Due Group" (2000); Chairman of the Disciplinary Board of the European Commission (2003-2007); President of the Portuguese Association of European Law since May 2009.
